What weightlifting is

Weightlifting training with technique and real progression

Weightlifting is an Olympic sport based on two technical lifts, the snatch and the clean and jerk. Part of the Olympic Games since 1896, it combines strength, speed and precision in one of the most complex and complete athletic movements there is.

At Revolution Fitness, weightlifting training is led by certified coaches with a progressive, individual approach. Whatever your starting point, you have the right space, equipment and support to progress in a structured way.

The Olympic lifts engage several muscle groups at once, developing strength, power, coordination and mobility in a movement that lasts less than a second but takes months of technical work to master.

What's your level?

Weightlifting training for every level

First time with a barbell or years of competing, progression is always individual and adapted to where you are.

For beginners LEVEL 01

Beginner

Never worked with an Olympic bar? The starting point is technique, not load. Every session is individually supervised to ensure safe progression from day one.

  • Introduction to the snatch with an empty bar
  • Mobility and specific warm-up
  • Front squat and overhead squat
  • Individual support in every session
  • Gradual, supervised progression

  • Introduction to competition
For competition LEVEL 03

Why Train

What makes weightlifting training different from everything else

Two movements. Hundreds of hours of technical work. A demanding Olympic sport, and one of the most rewarding.

01

Power and explosive strength

Olympic lifts are an effective way to develop real power. Gains that carry over to any sport or physical activity.

02

Full-body muscle work

A snatch activates several muscle groups at once. More effective, less time, in a single movement pattern.

03

Joint mobility

Catching the bar in a deep squat demands and develops exceptional mobility in the hips, ankles and shoulders, session after session.

04

High energy expenditure

The explosive nature of the lifts burns far more calories than conventional training, with the effect lasting for hours after the session.

05

Coordination and body control

Performing an Olympic lift with precision demands total body synchronisation. A level of motor control that no other training develops in the same way.

06

Bone density and longevity

Progressive loading on the bones stimulates their density and strengthens ligaments and tendons, one of the most recommended methods to slow muscle ageing.

Frequently asked questions about Weightlifting in Figueira da Foz

What is weightlifting training?

+
Weightlifting is an Olympic sport based on two technical movements, the snatch and the clean and jerk. The goal is to lift the heaviest possible load with correct technique. Part of the Olympic Games since 1896, it's one of the most complete sports in terms of overall physical development.

What is the difference between the snatch and the clean and jerk?

+
The snatch is a single movement in which the bar travels from the floor to overhead in one continuous action. The clean and jerk is split into two phases: first the bar comes up to the shoulders, then it's driven overhead. The sum of the two best lifts gives the athlete's Olympic total.

Do I need experience to start?

+
No experience is needed. Training starts with an empty bar and a sole focus on technique. Load increases gradually as the movement becomes solid. Each session is adapted to every athlete's level by the coach in charge.

Are weightlifting and CrossFit the same thing?

+
They're different but complementary disciplines. CrossFit uses weightlifting movements within varied general conditioning workouts. Weightlifting is an Olympic sport with its own methodology and competitions, centred on the snatch and the clean and jerk. At Revolution Fitness you can do both at the same time.

Which muscles are worked?

+
A single Olympic lift activates several muscle groups at once: legs, glutes, back, traps, shoulders, core and arms. All in a movement that lasts less than a second. That's why weightlifting is considered one of the most complete exercises there is.

How often should I train?

+
For beginners, 3 sessions a week are ideal to consolidate technique and build base strength. Intermediate and advanced athletes train 4 to 6 times a week with specific periodisation. The coaches set the right volume for each athlete and each stage of progression.

Can I combine weightlifting with CrossFit?

+
Yes, it's one of the most effective combinations. Snatch and clean and jerk technique directly improves CrossFit performance. At Revolution Fitness you can do both with the same plan, at no extra cost.

Can I compete in weightlifting competitions?

+
Yes. Training at Revolution Fitness prepares you to compete in events of the Portuguese Weightlifting Federation. The coaches support competition preparation and the periodisation needed to peak on the right date.

How much does weightlifting training cost?

+
We have several plans, and what changes between them is how many times a week you train and at what times. All of them include a coach in every class. No contract: you stay with us for as long as you're happy with what we offer. The day that changes, you're free to leave. You can see the plans and prices on the pricing page.

What should I bring to my first session?

+
Comfortable clothes and gym trainers. All the weightlifting equipment is available on site, so you don't need to buy anything before you try. The first session is free for local residents.
