“One day I'll start.” It's one of the most repeated phrases when it comes to the gym. One day when I have more time. One day when I'm in better shape. One day when life calms down a bit.
The problem is that day rarely comes on its own, until someone or something gives you the right push.
This article could be that push.
Why do you keep putting off starting to train?
It isn't laziness. In most cases, people who put off starting to train have very specific fears:
Fear of not being ready
“I need to get fitter before I join a class.” It's one of the most common thoughts, and one of the most contradictory. You go to the gym precisely to get fitter. You can't arrive already prepared.
Fear of not knowing how to do the exercises
Walking into a class for the first time without knowing what's going to happen is intimidating. What if you can't keep up? What if you do the movements wrong in front of everyone?
Fear of being judged
The idea of being surrounded by people who have been training for months or years while you're learning from scratch can be paralysing.
These fears are real, but they don't have to stop you.
What happens on your first day at Revolution Fitness
At Revolution Fitness, nobody walks into a class without guidance. Before anything else, you have a free Initial Orientation Session, 60 one-to-one minutes with a coach.
In that session:
- The coach assesses your current fitness: no judgement, no comparisons
- Records your starting data: weight, body measurements, blood pressure and flexibility
- Introduces the most common movements in class
- Adapts everything to your level and your goals
- Answers all your questions before you join a group class
Only after that session do you join a class, with context, with confidence and with the coach knowing who you are.
You don't need to be fit to start
This is the biggest lie that has delayed thousands of people from starting to train. At Revolution Fitness we have members who started after 60 without ever having set foot in a gym. We have people who arrived unable to do a single push-up. We have competitive athletes.
Everyone started somewhere. And everyone has progressed, each at their own pace, from their own starting point.
Training is always adapted to you. There are no compulsory movements, minimum loads or comparisons. The only requirement to join is to show up.
A community that makes you feel welcome
One of the biggest surprises for anyone walking into Revolution Fitness for the first time is the community. It's not the intimidating atmosphere many people imagine. It's a group of normal people, with normal lives, normal jobs and normal goals, who train together and support each other.
When you join, by your second class you already have a group that knows you by name. That makes a huge difference to consistency and to your motivation to keep going.
How to take the first step
It's simpler than it looks. You don't need to fill in complicated forms or commit to anything before you try.

That day could be today
You don't need to be in shape to start. You don't need to know how to do everything. And you won't have to walk into a class without guidance.
All you need is to take the first step. We'll take care of the rest.
And if you're not starting out but coming back after months off, the start is different. Read the 4-week plan to get back to training after the holidays.
If you're torn between starting on your own, hiring someone just for you or joining a class, first check whether hiring a personal trainer is worth it in your case.
If the decision you still need to make is where, not when, the guide to choosing a gym in Figueira da Foz has the seven questions to take with you on your visit.
And if the hesitation is about your level, not your willingness, the article on CrossFit for anyone explains how training adapts to you on day one.
